I like a big cache and I cannot lie. I also liked this cache that I did for one of the bashes and have not seen this type of cache used since, so it is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy and can keep your men out of playing in the nearby "playground"or going in for ammo cans. You could almost build a car with all the fun parts scattered about back here or a house with all the downed lumbar. Beware that hill could be slippery if wet conditions.

Sign a "log" and add to the building that I started to give to Craig Farrell the Chamber Director as a thank you gift for his last year with the Chamber and for starting the West Bend Cash Bash with me 13 years ago. Leave the stamps in the cache for the WB cache bash stamp booklet weekend. Permission to place geocache given by Lisa, Store Manager and also by the Fleet Farm Public Relations Department.

GC99JF32139 Recycling in the Year 2000 by Hope2findithttps://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC99JF32139 Recycling in the Year 2000GeocacheGeocache|Traditional Cache2139 Recycling in the Year 2000Hope2finditHope2finditTraditional CacheRegularRecommended for kidsShort hike (<1 km)22United StatesWisconsin
Recycling in the United States really started taking off in the 1960's, and by the year 2000.had grown significantly. Unfortunately, the amount of recycling, while it is still increasing, is not increasing much any more. The following information was taken from a report published by the EPA in 2019..

It shows that while there is some growth in the recycling of paper products, glass and plastic product recycling is holding pretty steady, and at a rather low rate.

This is a plea, to do something to help with minimizing waste.

The cache container for this geocache is a great example - it has had many uses over its life:

At one time, it was made by Rubbermaid, and was likely used as a container for flour, or other items in the kitchen.

After that, the Timberline Echos team made it into a cache container for GC4M1VB Old Superior Trails.

Next, someone muggled the cache, and threw it on the side of the road about 5 miles from the cache site, but close to my sister's cabin. She picked it up and called me, wondering what to do with it. With the intact log sheet, I contacted Timberline Echos, only to find out that it had been missing for over a year, and had already been replaced.

Now, this cache container is home to a cache at this new site.

PLEASE consider doing one thing differently that will save some plastics from going into the environment. Here are some ideas:

1. Bring your own bags to the grocery store.

2. Say no to plastic straws and plastic lids.

3. Get and use a stainless steel water bottle.

Thanks for your help!

Simply walk past 8 Ice Age Trail yellow markers to the cache; see below for directions. This is one of 12 caches we have placed to celebrate the 12 years of the annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this one commemorating Cache Ba$h #3 (GC1XV02), from the year 2010. Parking is available in the parking lot at N43 24.875 W88 13.155.

This is also a letterbox hybrid cache. Letterboxing is another outdoor activity in which people follow clues or a story (rather than just coordinates) to find a container and then put their personal stamp in the logbook and then stamp their own journal with the stamp from the cache.

A letterbox hybrid, like this one, is both a geocache and a letterbox. It can include both coordinates and clues to get you to the final location. Follow the instructions in the following paragraphs to be directed to the actual cache location. Contents include a stamp (do not take) for letterboxing, as well as a log book and swag for geocachers and letterboxers.

YOUR ADVENTURE AWAITS
1. The starting coordinates are N43 24.869 W88 13.159. They will take you to signage for the West Bend segment of the Ice Age Trail (“IAT”), the longest trail in the state. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is one of only 11 national scenic trails in the U.S. Although approx. 1,200 miles long, the entire trail is located within only one state: Wisconsin! Tracing the edge of the glaciers that covered much of Wisconsin during the Ice Age, this long-distance trail travels from Sturgeon Bay, near the shores of Lake Michigan, to St. Croix Falls, on the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. And it cuts through the area RIGHT HERE. The entire trail throughout the state is marked by yellow “blaze” rectangles to direct you along the way. You’ll encounter 8 of these markers while walking 1,200 feet (.23 of a mile). Just follow the markers to the cache.

2. Walk southwest about 25 feet and you’ll see a blue rectangular marker painted on a tree. Blue IAT markers indicate that it is a short spur trail off of the main Ice Age Trail to direct you to parking or a special site. Follow the “blue” trail south about 50 feet and cross the street, then continue straight another 40 feet toward the pond.

3. It is here that you’ll be at a T-intersection on the trail that goes left and right, at N43 24.836 W88 13.158. It is also where you’ll encounter the first of eight yellow blaze markers. You’re now on the famed Ice Age Trail!!

THE SHORT VERSION
Keep walking on the trail around the pond, starting southeast until you get to the 8th yellow blaze and turn left. Boom.

THE MORE WORDY, COLORFUL VERSION
4. From the T-intersection, head left (southeast) on the trail around the pond, taking in the scenic views. About 40 feet down trail you’ll see the 2nd yellow blaze marker, on a tree on the left. Then in another 140 feet or so you’ll pass your 3rd yellow marker on a post, along with a description of the IAT Geocaching Cold Cache program. ColdCaching is an exciting family-friendly way to explore and learn about the many natural features along the Ice Age Trail. ColdCaching involves finding earthcaches listed with specific natural features along the Ice Age Trail. As you find more ColdCaches, you can register for the ColdCache awards program to receive patches recognizing your prowess as a ColdCache geocache hunter.

5. Continuing along another 55 feet you’ll be at the beginning of the 235-foot boardwalk at N43 24.816 W88 13.121, which is one of the most picturesque and fun spots along the trail. Step up and don’t trip over that 14th board!

6. Continue south along the boardwalk, passing the 4th IAT yellow marker, which is on a post in the middle of the water on your left. After you get to the opposite side of the boardwalk, you’re almost at your destination.

7. Continue uphill on the trail, S/SW. On your right you’ll see a chain link fence, and you’ll pass up the 5th yellow marker 70 feet from the boardwalk.

8. You’ll proceed a bit more uphill and then a bit downhill to yellow marker #6 on the tree to the left of the path, with the fence still to your right.

9. Now here’s where it gets tricky (but not by much). Only 78 feet east, past yellow marker #6, the trail goes in three directions. There are two paths to the left (north) and one that goes straight (east, into the creek). Pass up and ignore the first left trail and take the second left trail (only 10 feet past the first left), which is still the Ice Age Trail. Ignore the trail that goes straight as it ends up in the creek.

10. You’re now less than 160 feet from the cache. Instead of walking east, you’ll now be heading north on the IAT. The creek will be on your right (nice views) and the chain link fence will now be behind you. In only 35 feet or so you’ll come to IAT yellow marker #7 on the skinny tree to your right. One more to go!

11. Walk less than 100 feet and you’ll be at yellow marker #8. Stop. On your right is the tree with the blaze yellow marker and a steep slope downward to the creek. But don’t go there. Go left (W/NW) off trail 33 feet uphill from that yellow marker and you’ll find the cache hiding behind a huge 40 foot long log on the ground. You’re done!

12. We hope you have enjoyed the journey! Instead of heading back to parking, if you continue north on the IAT you’ll find two more caches placed for this year’s Cache Ba$h.

Geocaching Etiquette for Cache Finders

To avoid tipping off others to the location, carefully remove the cache and then move away to examine its contents.

Check out the swag inside the cache and sign the logbook with your geocaching.com username.

Take one item out (if you want to), but only if you replace it with a new item of equal or higher value.

If the item you take is a “trackable”, then you also have an obligation to log the item and move it to a new cache.

Carefully seal the cache and hide it exactly as you found it. Don't try to make it easier or harder for the next person to find.

Write a log to let the cache owner know you found it. Note the condition of the cache and provide future geocachers anything they might want to know—don’t provide any spoilers, though.

A pathtag is a small (1" diameter) coin that is left as signature items by some geocachers. The design on the face of the coin is customized, while the other side holds a generic design and a serial number. They're often mistaken for geocoins, but there are three main differences between geocoins and pathtags. The most important difference is that pathtags have nothing to do with GroundSpeak and are not trackable at geocaching.com. Another difference is that the tags are not individually trackable - all tags of the same design have the same serial number. While it is possible to track where the tags were logged, it is not possible to track the path of an individual tag. Finally, tags are usually meant to be kept by the finder, instead of being moved like activated geocoins. They are very popular for trading at events and on the pathtags.com website.

What the organizers didn’t plan on was that their efforts would draw the attention of actual spirits that haunt the old Libby’s Canning Factory that Terror on Rural Street calls home. It wasn’t long after construction started on the new haunted attraction that strange and unusual events started to befall the workers. It is not uncommon to be walking down the halls of the building and hear footsteps following behind you only to turn around and no one is there.

The best known spirit is that of a little girl that was killed in an accident when the canning factory was still active. She has been seen peeking around corners and heard humming a tune. Some workers have claimed to smell candy when she is nearby. So if you’re brave of heart come down to Terror on Rural Street Haunted House find the cache and see if you can survive the spirits that remain.

Including this one, 11 of the 12 caches we have placed are located at Ridge Run Park. Free parking is available on weekdays after 5pm, and all day on weekends in the nearby 300-car special event east parking lot at N43 25.154 W88 12.818 (or you can likely take your chances going earlier). Or you can park at any time farther away in the 90-car west, 57-car central, or 10-car northeast parking lots of Ridge Run Park.

Cache Ba$h 2009 was the second-ever Cache Ba$h in West Bend, but more notably it was WISCONSIN'S VERY FIRST MEGA EVENT! After the initial success of the first non-mega cache bash in 2008, with 381 people participating and 130 "attended" logs, the West Bend Chamber of Commerce and the Cache Ba$h committee of local geocachers went big and applied for mega event status. They got it, and over 1,100 people showed up for the state's first mega. So it didn't seem appropriate to place a small or micro cache to celebrate this significant event. Mega events deserve a mega container!

There weren't any specific themes for those first several bashes in the "early" years, but the concept was unique. It was one of the first geocaching events in the world to offer large cache prizes. Fifty caches were placed for the event, each containing a different inked stamp. Geocachers were provided with an event gamecard, and would stamp the gamecard with the stamp that was located in each cache. The more caches found, the more chances to win in the $1,000 raffle. The first 250 teams to register also received the free very first Cache Bash pathtag (pictured above), which was not available for purchase.

Other activities included a Friday night meet & greet event and fun night caches, a post-bash event on Saturday night, and a PJ breakfast event on Sunday hosted by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.

Special events on Saturday for future generations of geocachers included Little Cachers Pennies and Prizes Treasure Hunt for ages 2 to 7, and a Secret Treasure Box activity for ages 8 to 12, as well as free swimming passes at the Regner Park pool.

Some of the statistics:

312 attended logs (1,100+ people)

450 caches overall located within 7 miles

50 new cache hides

118 favorite votes as of summer 2021 (not bad considering favorite votes weren't created until 2 years later)

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday meet & greet events

10 of 50 caches still active as of summer 2021 (get them while they're still there!)

We hope you enjoy all of the caches at this year's Cache Ba$h 2021!

Essentially walk past 8 Ice Age Trail yellow markers to the cache; see below for directions. This is one of 12 geocaches we have placed to celebrate the 12 years of the annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this one commemorating Cache Ba$h #6 (GC3WQ0R), from the year 2013.
This is also a letterbox hybrid cache.
A letterbox hybrid, like this one, is both a geocache and a letterbox. It can include both coordinates and clues to get you to the final location. Follow the instructions in the following paragraphs to be directed to the actual cache location.
ROCK SONGS?
This cache is celebrating Cache Ba$h 6, which took place in 2013. It marked the turning point in how the Cache Ba$h mega events were conducted, because it’s the last year in which each geocache hider chose their own theme, if any. Every bash event afterward from 2014 to now has had one common theme for all or most of the cache placements (usually 66 caches per mega). This year’s theme is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching. But back then with each hider choosing varied topics, the theme that was most memorable for us was The Goldie Diggers’ 12-cache series of “80s One Hit Wonders,” most of which were placed along the Ice Age Trail. So since those fun and amazing caches were based on “rock” songs, that’s the theme we chose to honor Cache Ba$h 6. Goldie, this one’s for you!

YOUR ADVENTURE AWAITS
THE SHORT VERSION: Walk south along the Ice Age Trail about .23 of a mile past 8 sets of yellow blaze markers until you get to a bench.

THE BETTER VERSION: Follow these directions…

1. The starting coordinates are N43 24.765 W88 13.222, which is a little over 700 feet from the parking lot, along the famed Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Many people have actually hiked the entire Ice Age Trail, some as "thru-hikers" in one continuous adventure, and some as "section hikers," covering the trail in bits and pieces, over the course of many months or years. These folks have earned the title of "Thousand-Milers." The entire trail throughout the state is marked by yellow “blaze” rectangles to direct you along the way. You’ll encounter 8 of these blazes while walking about 1,200 feet (.23 of a mile). Just follow these markers along the trail to the cache most of the way.

2. At the starting coordinates you’ll see a seemingly out of place chain link fence that meets the trail, along with Ice Age Trail (IAT) signage and the first yellow blaze rectangle marker that is painted on a tree. You’re on your way!

3. Head south on the trail. You’ll see a pond on your left at the bottom of the slope as you continue 235 feet to yellow blaze #2, followed by blaze #3 another in another 160 feet. Usually the yellow blaze markers are painted on a tree, preferably about six feet up, other times they’re rectangles or arrows on a wooden post like the one at #3.

4. In about another 170 feet you’ll come to blaze #4 on the tree just to the right of the path. In another 40 feet or so you’ll pass up a big boulder on your left, followed by two more big rocks the size of tricycles right on the trail in another 40 feet.

5. Continue along the path as it zigzags left then right, reaching yellow blaze #5 in 128 feet on a post, followed by #6 at two huge trees on your right at N43 24.628 W88 13.222. Have you been keeping count of the markers or are the coordinates helpful?!

6. Blaze marker #7 on follows in another 144 feet on a tree at N43 24.614 W88 13.248, with scattered bowling ball-sized rocks nearby on both the left and right. You’re now only about 256 feet from the cache.

7. As you continue along the trail you’ll begin to see another chain link fence on your right as the path turns left at near a microwave oven-sized boulder. About 170 feet from blaze #7 you’ll see blaze marker #8 on a tree. No more yellow markers.

8. Go 30 feet past that final yellow blaze marker #8 and you will finally come to a bench, the first one encountered on the trail. Stop. Have a seat. You’re almost there! On the bench is a plaque dedicated to a couple for their many years of service. Take that number of years of service, multiply times two, and that is how many feet you simply have to walk southwest, at a bearing of about 270 degrees off trail in a straight line from the bench to a HUGE “rock,” the biggest one yet. That’s where you’ll find what you’re looking for. You’re done!

9. We hope you have enjoyed the journey. Instead of heading back to parking, if you continue south on the IAT about another 700+ feet you’ll find one more cache placed for this year’s Cache Ba$h.

THE FIRST CACHE BASH, HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Cache Ba$h 2008 was the very first geocaching bash in West Bend, but it wasn’t its first mega event. That didn’t happen until a year later. But the event that happened in 2008 introduced the format for the mega events that have followed every year since.

It all started when LDove, an active local cacher in the area, asked Craig Farrell, president of the West Bend Chamber of Commerce, for permission to hide a cache on the chamber property. Realizing that this could lead to something beneficial for both geocachers and the city of West Bend, they soon made plans to hold a geocaching event dubbed the “1st Annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h.” It was truly visionary, and became one of the first geocaching events in the world to offer large cache prizes.

Other West Bend geocachers were brought on board including Earth Angel, Ecorangers, jvechinski, and ThePharmGirl, and together they planned this unique and ambitious event. Fifty caches were placed for the event, each containing a different inked stamp. Geocachers were provided with an event gamecard, and would stamp the gamecard with the stamp that was located in each cache. The more caches found, the more stamps on the gamecard, and therefore more chances to win in the $1,000 raffle.

Some of the many other activities for the weekend included a Friday night meet & greet event hosted by Ecorangers and LDove, and a flash mob event that Sunday. The family-friendly event had children's activities available as well.

The Cache Ba$h 2008 event was an unprecedented success, with an attendance of 381 people, at the time the largest geocache gathering ever in the state. That success led to the bold move to host Wisconsin’s first Cache Ba$h MEGA event (minimum 500 people required) the following year. With the exception of the postponed event in 2020, there has been a West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h MEGA event every year since, thanks to the vision and hard work of a group of some very capable and dedicated individuals working together. It's no wonder that West Bend is known as "The Geocaching Capital of the Midwest!"

Some statistics from that first year:

130 attended logs (with 381 confirmed participants)

400 caches overall located within 7 miles

119 favorite votes as of summer 2021 (not bad considering that favorite votes weren’t created until 3 years later!)

Friday night meet & greet (“Drink, Think & Coin Clink”) and Sunday flash mob event

Only 8 of 50 caches still active as of summer 2021 (get them while you still can!)

The theme of Cache Ba$h 10 was "Cache WARS."

It was epic.

There were pre-bash meet & greet events on Wednesday and Thursday, a Friday night light saber flash mob event, and 10 "Battle the Dark Side" night lab caches on Friday & Saturday, as well as two events on Sunday. But Saturday - that's where the force was REALLY stong! Of the 66 themed caches placed for the event, 10 of the caches were part of a special competition between 5 cache hiders of the Rebel Alliance and 5 cache hiders of the Dark Forces of the Empire. The hiders worked hard to create one of a kind, amazing geocaches placed for cachers to vote on for the best geocache of the bash. The Rebel Alliance won, but not by much! It's certain to say that with caches like these everyone was a winner, hiders and finders! With hard-to-create gadget caches and creative-themed caches like these it's no wonder that almost 2,000 favorite votes have been awarded to them!

Many commented that this was the best cache ba$h ever. Of course we pretty much feel that way every year!

Some of the statistics:

The theme of Cache Ba$h 11 was "Discover the Magic," and numerous events were staged regarding its theme. Friday and Saturday evenings featured awesome Harry Potter/Hogwarts School of Wizardry illusionist night lab caches where you could discover your patronus, solve a ghostly mystery, or save the Quidditch World Cup! . Three professional magicians roamed the grounds at Regner Park performing tricks on Saturday.

Then of course there were the 50 themed caches themselves, all related to magic and magicians! We placed seven of them back then, all related to Disney magical characters. The event as usual was a great success. Some of the statistics:

The cache is located almost exactly 1/2 mile from parking along the Ice Age Trail, and there are three other new Cache Ba$h caches on the trail you’ll encounter on the way to this one. Free parking is available in the 90-car lot at N 43° 24.875 W 088° 13.155.

Cache Ba$h 2011 was the 4th-ever Cache Ba$h in West Bend, and the first one that we ever attended. There weren't any specific themes for those first several bashes in the "early" years, but the concept was unique: lots of new caches (66), pre and post-bash meet & greet events, plus it was and still is one of the few geocaching events in the world to offer large cache prizes.

Each geocache hider for the bash chose their own theme, if any. This year’s theme is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching. But back then with each hider choosing varied topics, the theme that was most memorable for us was The Goldie Diggers’ 12-cache series on different SPORTS, most of which were placed along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Mrs. Hack1of2 was especially pleased to see that one of the caches in that series was on cheerleading, since she was a cheerleader back in high school and thought it was great that cheerleading finally got some recognition! It was also the year that we had heavy downpours of rain, which added to the fun and the challenge of finding caches during the bash. So since those fabulous caches in the series were based on sports, that’s the theme we chose to honor Cache Ba$h 4.

Other activities included a Friday night meet & greet event and two fun night caches, a post-bash event on Saturday night, and a breakfast event on Sunday hosted by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association. Also, for the first time, instead of pathtags being given out, a limited edition Cache Ba$h geocoin was available for purchase (pictured below).

This is the 9th of 12 geocaches we have placed celebrating the 12 years of the annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this one remembering Cache Ba$h #9 (GC65E0M), from the year 2016. The cache is located .26 of a mile south from parking along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, and there are three other new Cache Ba$h caches you’ll encounter on this same stretch of the trail. Free parking is available in the 90-car lot at N 43° 24.875 W 088° 13.155.

The theme of Cache Ba$h 2016 was “Wild Wild West Bend.” A total of 66 new caches were placed for the mega event, all with a western theme. Many had fun and clever theme-related titles such as “This is a Stick up,” “Bad Hombre,” “An Ole Fashion Hangn,” “Trail Blazers,” “Evil Outlaw,” and “Where the Deer and the Antelope Play.” A unique feature for this year was the OUTLAW ROUNDUP. Find and “capture” the stamp of the 9 costumed roaming “outlaws” during the bash to get an extra raffle ticket for the prize drawings. They had great outfits and were easy to spot!

One of the most popular caches placed for the bash that year was a cache called “Line Dancing, Just off the Trail” placed by WI_pattymel. This cache is an homage to that cache, as well as to the many fun caches of Cache Ba$h 2016. YEE-HAW!

Each one had a special color bead that you could add to your Pieces of Eight bead necklace (found in each geocacher’s goody bag). Find all 8 beads to earn an extra ticket for the Prize Drawing. CACHE BA$H 7

Cache Ba$h 7 marked the turning point in how the Cache Ba$h mega events were conducted, for a number of reasons. First, it was the first year that a central theme was chosen for the bash (with all previous bashes, each hider chose their own topics). The theme was “Lucky 7s,” to commemorate the 7th bash. Second, besides geocaching, a special Where’s Waldo game was included, in which each geocacher was given a Waldo game card. The goal was to find all 7 Waldo characters in full costume roaming around during the weekend to enter the special Waldo raffle! One of the Waldos commented that he was photographed more that weekend that he has ever been in his life – including his wedding day! Third and finally, the 2014 event saw the launch of the West Bend Geotour – 20 locations highlighting the history and the best of the city, with a free geocoin for those who complete the tour.

Cache Ba$h 2012 was the 5th-ever Cache Ba$h in West Bend. There weren't any specific themes for those first several bashes in the "early" years, but the overall concept was unique: lots of new caches (66), pre and post-bash meet & greet events, plus it was and still is one of the few geocaching events in the world to offer large cache prizes. A limited edition geocoin (pictured below) was available for purchase for the first 200 geocachers (100 Friday, 100 Saturday).

Each geocache hider for the bash chose their own theme, if any. This year’s theme is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching. But back then with each hider choosing varied topics, the theme that was most memorable for us was The Goldie Diggers’ 12 holiday-themed caches, each with some type of gimmick or prop. So since those caches in the series were based on holidays, that’s the theme we chose to honor Cache Ba$h 5.

The theme of Cache Ba$h 12 was "Superheroes," so what better way to celebrate this cache than to place it at the location of some real-life heroes!

FIREFIGHTERS

Firefighters are superheroes! They are not only responsible for responding to fires, accidents and other incidents where risks are posed to life and property, but they serve our communities in so many other ways.

They respond to a wide variety of calls, such as car crashes, chemical spills, flooding, water rescue and general rescue as well as fires. With many fire crews being trained as first responders they can provide first aid until the arrival of ambulance personnel. In addition to attending to emergency calls and rescuing people and animals from life-threatening situations, their job can entail:

- Preventing fires by providing regular inspections

- Using sophisticated firefighting and rescue equipment and keeping it in great condition

- Promoting fire safety via public educational activities, talks, and training sessions

- Performing practice drills and undertaking physical and continuing academic training

CACHE BA$H 12

Besides the 50 superhero-themed caches placed for the 2019 Cache Ba$h, Geocaching’s new Adventure Labs were used for the first time at the bash. In keeping with the theme, adventure lab cache participants visited 5 locations that highlighted our real-life community heroes, including the police, fire, and rescue workers of West Bend. Those who visited all 5 locations earned a secret Superhero password for more chances to win during the bash prize drawings. Many felt that this was the best Cache Ba$h ever. Of course we usually feel that way every year! Some of the statistics:

This is something that happened the same year that Geocaching was born. For nearly 50 years Carl Schulz drew the Peanuts comic strip, with Charlie Brown, Snoopy , Woodstock, Lucy van Pelt, Linus van Pelt, Peppermint Patty, Sally Brown, and Franklin as its main characters. After he suffered several small strokes and a blocked aorta, and found cancer he announced his retirement on December 14, 1999. Schulz died at his home on February 12, 2000, at the age of 77 of colon cancer. His last original Peanuts strip was published the next day. He had predicted that the strip would outlive him because the strips were usually drawn weeks before their publication. End of an Era. But his Legacy lives on.

The Ice Age trail is one of 11 National Trails in the United States and the only trail contained witin a single state. The entire trail is 1200 miles long stretching through 30 counties in Wisconsin. The trail starts at Interstate State Park in Western Polk County and ends at Potowatami State Park in Door County. The trail follows the edge of the last continental glacier in Wisconsin from more than 12,000 years ago.

The Ice Age Trail began in the 1950s as the dream of Milwaukeean Ray Zillmer, who had a vision of a long, linear park winding through Wisconsin along the glacier’s terminal moraine.

You can find more information on the trail at https://www.iceagetrail.org/ice-age-trail/ and find an interactive map of the entire trail at https://www.iceagetrail.org/new-interactive-hiker-resource-map/

This segment passes through the scenic Glacial Blue Hills Recreation Area traversing rugged up and down terrain as it goes along a moraine and dips between ridges as well of a great view of a kettle lake. The Glacial Blue Hills area features a network of hiking and biking trails, including two white-blazed loop trails.

This earthcache is being published as part of the 13th annual West Bend Cache Ba$h and is located along the Kewaskum Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Washington County. See map 86f in the Ice Age Trail Atlas or Section 18 - Kewaskum Segment in the Geology of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail for detailed trail information.

This segment was formed by the Green Bay lobe and takes you through high-relief hummocky topography. The ridge you're hiking on is made up of many hummocks. A hummock is a knob-like hump or ridge. All the hills along this segment are made from sand or gravel. The Sunburst ski hill is one example of a high gravel hill. On the top of one hill you'll get a fine view of the high drumlins of the Green Bay Lobe. These drumlins are some of the highest in Wisconsin and are similar to the Campbellsport drumlins. Together they make up the Campbellsport Drumlins Unit of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve. This Reserve contains about 5,000 hills. Drumlins a formed in groups called swarms or fields. The drumlins parallels the direction of the ice flow and resembles a teardrop shape.

The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to and approved by Eva Ballering, Land Steward, Ice Age Trail Alliance.

IATCC is the cache designation to highlight a series of EarthCaches along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail grouped into a special category called "ColdCache."

The Ice Age Trail in one of eleven National scenic Trails designated by the National Park Service. This unique trail is entirely within the state of Wisconsin and follows along the terminal moraine of the most recent glacier which retreated about 10,000 years ago.

This project is supported by the Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA). The goal is to bring more visitors to the trail and promote public awareness, appreciation, and understanding of Wisconsin's glacial landscape.

The IATA has created an awards program to encourage visits to the trail and ColdCache sites. The awards program is separate from, and in addition to, any other Geo- or EarthCache awards program.

A current list of approved ColdCache sites can be found on the "IATCC Bookmark List". More information on the Ice Age Trail Atlas, the Companion Guide, the ColdCache Project and Awards Program can be found on the "ColdCache web page"

Notice: Prospect Dr. To Ridge Rd. is closed during the nine day gun deer hunting season in late November.

In order to log this IATCC as a find, the following tasks must be completed and your answers e-mailed to me.

1. Describe the two landscapes featured at the preserve.

2. As you sit on the bench, with the Ice Age Trail at your feet and look out toward the landscape features, what direction are you facing?

3. The hills in the far distance form what?

4. Feel free to post a photo of yourself at GZ (this is NOT required).

The original page states, “When Mother Goose arrived in the Kettle Morraine, she brought with her five complete mini-caches(gozlings).” [sic]

Those five goslings were taken and hid and became known as Goosey caches. Later more foster goslings were added, most with the Goosey prefix.

I thought it was time to adopt another goose for the 20th celebration. Behold, Goosey Viginti!

Many of you probably have heard of Locationless, Virtual, and Webcam, but what about the really obscure? I’m talking about WOM and Hamster.

WOM: In the early days, when there weren’t as many caches to find the hobby looked to Letterboxing. One of the Letterboxing types of hide is the WOM, or word of mouth. These boxes are not listed and in order to find one you need a clue that was passed either at a gatherings or put into another box. These were called Cuckoo Clues.

Hamster: As far as I can tell the Hamster Cache was only available for one day. If you try to put the code in now you will get an “invalid code” message.
